Welcome to my backyard in Brewster, New York (Zone 6a). I’m an artist and backyard lover. A lot of my paintings facilities round my backyard. Or is it the opposite method round? Both method, I like to take full benefit of each!
My pineapple columns and a few potted impatiens (Impatiens walleriana, Zones 10–11 or as an annual) greet guests on the entryway.
In the principle backyard, trickling water could be heard from the fountain as you enter the property. A cypress (Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Filifera Aurea’, Zones 4–8) towers over pitcher plant sculptures surrounded by hostas, iris, fern, decorative grass, canna, and a banana tree within the rear. (The tropical crops are overwintered inside.)
The fountain gathers a number of moss, which is sweet cowl for the numerous frogs who collect there.
The walkway to the again of the home is shaded by trumpet vine (Campsis radicans, Zones 4–9) rising up the home and over the arbor. All of the walkways are comprised of concrete, hand shaped like mud pies.

This pond, dug out by hand, is residence to goldfish and frogs and many lily pads. A pump retains it oxygenated by recirculating water down the stream.

An extended shaded backyard borders the perimeter of the yard with many types of hostas, ferns, some creeping Jenny (Lysimachia nummularia, Zones 3–9), and iris (Iris sibirica hybrid, Zones 3–8). Pitcher-plant sculptures poke by.
This backyard patch was planted final 12 months after a tree was blown over in a storm. A potted foxtail fern (Asparagus densiflorus, Zones 8–10 or as an annual or houseplant) tops the column. Observe that two mysterious flower spikes are hiding throughout the foliage. The tall pink ones within the iris leaves are comprised of rest room brushes. The small magenta ones at heart proper are comprised of consuming straw brushes!
