We’re visiting Moyra Bunger’s backyard at the moment.
I stay close to Syracuse, New York, on the banks of Limestone Creek. I’ve lived right here for 34 years and have loved turning the property from a clean slate to a backyard I really like. I spent many hours hauling limestone rocks from the creek to edge my gardens, and constructed low partitions to lift some gardens up a bit. We get a lot of wildlife right here, so I’ve to fence my vegetable backyard, however in any other case I attempt to plant issues the deer don’t actually care to eat.
Try this overwhelming floral show from a kousa dogwood (Cornus kousa, Zones 5–9). Kousa dogwoods could be much less spectacular when younger, however as they get big and mature like this, they’re arduous to beat.
Lovely pairing of a peony (seems like Paeonia ‘Bartzella’, Zones 4–8) with a purple hardy geranium (Geranium sp.)
Magical foggy view of the backyard, with butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa, Zones 5–9) glowing within the dim gentle
This beautiful lacecap hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla, Zones 5–9) is in full bloom. It’s arduous to beat hydrangeas for floral show when they’re comfortable.
The entrance backyard is overflowing with flowers. I’m certain the canine does its greatest to maintain the deer away.
